Website Migration
Migrate platforms without breaking your business
Move from any off-the-shelf website builder or older platform to modern, reliable technology, without losing your rankings, content or uptime.
In short
WeMakeSites moves websites off older or limiting platforms (off-the-shelf website builders and outdated content systems) onto modern, reliable technology. We keep every web address where we can, redirect cleanly where an address must change, move your content across with its structure intact, and rebuild the site to load fast. Most moves are done in 3-5 weeks. People usually come to us because they are locked into a platform they can't easily leave (some website builders are notoriously hard to escape with content intact), because their site is slow, because they have outgrown what their platform can do, or because platform fees keep rising. We have moved dozens of sites, so the process is well-tested and low-risk: done correctly, a migration causes at most a small, temporary dip of 5-15% in Google traffic that recovers within 4-8 weeks. Pricing is quoted in writing based on the size and complexity of your site.
Why it matters
Moving a website to a new platform is the single riskiest kind of web project, and most agencies don't have a safe process for it. We have seen moves that wiped out years of Google traffic, broke order history, lost customer accounts, scrambled products, and turned most of a site's internal links into dead ends. None of that is necessary when it is done carefully.
We start by fully exporting and checking your current site: a list of every web address, a redirect plan, an inventory of your content, your search setup, and a snapshot of your traffic and rankings. We then build the new site alongside your live one, content moved across, structure rebuilt, addresses matched or redirected, search setup kept, and your other tools reconnected. Nothing goes live until we have thoroughly tested the new site and confirmed every address behaves as it should.
We keep downtime to a minimum. For most sites, we switch over in a single window with no downtime that visitors would notice. For online stores, we pick a quiet time, briefly pause new orders, complete the switch, and confirm the first real orders work end to end on the new platform.
The moves we handle most often are: off-the-shelf website builders to faster technology (owners fed up with limits or slow speed), older store platforms to a more manageable one (owners tired of the upkeep), slow shared hosting to fast, reliable hosting (owners tired of poor speed and security scares), and content-only moves where the platform is fine but the host is not.
After the move we watch Google for 30 days for any errors or ranking changes. Most moves cause a small, temporary dip of 5-15% that recovers within 4-8 weeks when redirects are correct. If it doesn't recover, that points to a redirect issue we will fix.

FAQs
Website Migration, questions we get.
Will I lose SEO during migration?
Not if it is done correctly. Most moves cause a small, temporary dip of 5-15% in the first few weeks that fully recovers within 6-8 weeks. Permanent traffic loss only happens with a botched redirect plan or lost search setup, both avoidable.
How much downtime will there be?
For most sites, next to none. We switch over with both the old and new site running, and visitors are served the new site once the change takes effect. For online stores, we plan a quiet maintenance window (usually 1-2 hours) to handle in-progress orders cleanly.
Can you migrate from a website builder?
Yes. Some website builders are the hardest mainstream platforms to leave, because they don't make it easy to export your content, but we have done it many times. We use a mix of automated tools and hands-on work to get everything off cleanly.
Can you migrate store orders and customer data?
Yes. We move your order history, customer accounts, addresses and tags. Whether you are moving to or from a hosted store platform, we use the built-in tools where they exist and custom scripts where they don't.
How long does a migration take?
Small sites (under 30 pages, no online store), about 3 weeks. Standard sites with a fair amount of content, 4-5 weeks. Online stores or complex moves across several platforms, 6-8 weeks.
